6 Local Hotspots to Round Out Your Indianapolis Spring Staycation

For many, exotic spring breaks aren’t always an option. Whether you’re unable to travel far, or you simply don’t want to (long travels can be exhausting!), Indianapolis is home to a plethora of unique activities, guaranteed to make any staycation feel like a trip far from home.

From outdoor adventures to wine tastings and more, we’ve compiled a guide that has the inside scoop on all the must-visit Indianapolis escapades this spring.

Visit the Indianapolis Zoo & White River Gardens

Would it even be spring if you didn’t witness beautiful blooms and flourishing wildlife? We seriously doubt it! Among the magical sights and animals of the Indianapolis Zoo is a hidden oasis. Unbeknownst to many are the White River Gardens.

With a general admission ticket to the Zoo, you’ll be granted complimentary access to the Gardens. Once inside, visitors can choose to visit multiple locations, such as the indoor Hilbert Conservatory, or the outdoor DeHaan Tiergarten. Both attractions can promise one thing – lush greenery and fresh florals.

Sip on the Indy Wine Trail

Surrounded by delectable eats and unique microbreweries, it’s no surprise to Hoosiers why many are calling Indianapolis one of America’s hottest food cities. Still, many have yet to experience the excitement of the Indy Wine Trail.

This particular course features four top-tier local wineries, including Buck Creek, Cedar Creek, Chateau Thomas and Easley Winery. Not to mention, if you visit on a weekday, you can save money on the ticket price. Get to wine tasting!

Go hiking at Eagle Creek Park

Strap on your Fitbit, lace up your boots and get some fresh air at Eagle Creek. With countless different activities, it’s not difficult to spend the entire day wandering the park. From a ropes course, to kayaking on the lake to several trails, it’s highly unlikely you’ll find yourself bored here.

For those new to Central Indiana, Eagle Creek is located just outside the I-465 loop in Indianapolis. Close enough to home, but far enough way to make for a special trip!

Check out the view at the Observation Deck & Visit Mass Ave.

Who doesn’t love a striking view of a city skyline? As one of Indianapolis’ best kept secrets, the observation deck at the City County Building is a place you won’t want to miss.

Not only is admission free-of-charge, but the one-of-a-kind view will leave you with an array of Instagram-worthy snapshots and memories to last a lifetime.

While you’re at it, make a day of it and grab lunch on Mass Ave. As one of the hottest streets in downtown Indianapolis, you won’t want to miss out on all of the critically-acclaimed eats the area has to offer. From craft beer to delicious burgers to wood-fired pizza and Mimosa-centric brunch spots, there’s something for everyone. We love it all, but Latin classic cuisine spot, Livery, is one of our personal favorites. While you’re at it, check out their rooftop dining!

Cheer on Indy Eleven

While most have heard of the Colts and Pacers, many don’t realize that Indianapolis is home to several minor league sports teams.

One event you won’t want to miss is Indy’s professional soccer team, Indy Eleven. Even better, the team is set to play home games at Lucas Oil Stadium this season, making for an experience full of fun. With the team’s first home game on March 31, mark Indy Eleven down on your staycation agenda. So, grab your gear, and go Indy!
